Oral history interview with William Sturman, Sept. 5, 1985.

Sturman recounts his life in Everett, Washington, where he has spent most of his life. He relates how his father settled in Everett and opened a shoe store, later sending for young Sturman and his mother. He describes his childhood impressions of travelling across the United States by train. He discusses growing up in a small Jewish community and talks about his marriage and raising a family. Sturman reminisces about the Montefiore synagogue and the congregation's history. He identifies the 1920s as the time when the congregation most flourished. He shares his feelings about the diminishment of the congregation and concludes that small-town communities are not conducive to furthering Jewish life.
